Welcome to Alnwick Market’s first blog on our Traders and their businesses. This first blog post focuses on Stephen Allen, a talented artist who creates exceptional and stunning wildlife portraits all delicately handpainted onto a feather. It truly is eye-catching and a work of art!
Stephen attends our regular markets on a Saturday here in Alnwick, occasionally you will see him painting away on a customised order. I recently spoke with Stephen and asked him how long it took him to create a single painting, of course, it varies, but typically Stephen will spend 3-4 hours on one painting alone. It obviously depends on the complexity of the design, with some taking up to 2 days to complete.
His feather artwork is mounted and framed, making it a perfect gift for the home, boutiques, guest houses or hotels. But it’s not just confined to a picture frame, Stephen also branches out into customised brooches and hip flasks. Certainly a unique gift!
Along with Stephen, we attract many Northumbrian artists here in Alnwick. Our pop up gallery is always worth a browse on our main event days.
You can view more of Stephen’s work on his website, here is his link or why not keep an eye on our Facebook Page, where we announce all of our traders on our page.

Based in Northumberland Hayley provides massage services to a wide variety of clients across Northumberland and the North East. Hayley's massage service at Alnwick Markets is proving very popular with the local community and our visitors. The company is called Myriad Massage and she offers a wide range of bespoke treatments.
This month’s recipe uses Northumberland game from Hadrian’s Larder, notably Pheasant Legs. Game from Northumberland is some of the best available, having a perfect natural habitat for species to thrive. The gamekeepers and estate managers across the county do a great job in managing the population of game which can then be used to provide wonderfully lean, tasty produce for us all to enjoy.
